Neve Campbell won't return for 'Scream 6' over Salary Dispute

Neve Campbell is not returning to play Sidney Prescott in the upcoming Scream 6: Exclusive story here!  

Actress Neve Campbell has passed the opportunity to star in Scream 6, the slasher franchise she has been a part of since 1996. And before the Scream fandom lashes at Campbell for not reprising the fan-favorite role, Sidney Prescott, the actress has her own valid reasons. Campbell says what she has been offered simply doesn't equate to her value now.  

"Sadly, I won't be making the next Scream film," said the 48-year-old actress. She continues, "As a woman I have had to work extremely hard in my career to establish my value, especially when it comes to Scream, I felt the offer that was presented to me did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise."

Campbell, a native of Guelph, Ontario, first starred in the slasher film in 1996, alongside David Arquette, Courteney Cox, Matthew Lillard, and Rose McGowan. The film was a huge box office hit, grossing $173 million against a budget of $15 million. The Canadian actress reprised her character in the four sequels that followed. This isn't the first time Neve has gotten candid about the inadequate pay in the industry.

Campbell shared her dissatisfactory experience after the release of Scream 3. The scream queen was prompted to speak out when a fellow scream queen, Jamie Lee Curtis, from the Halloween slasher franchise, revealed the meager pay. Curtis shared she didn't make much off the multiple horror movies she played. "There's always the promise of back end," said Neve, referring to the promised compensation if the movie outdoes the estimated.

Campbell further vents, "And then, of course, it's drowned in publicity and costs and all the reasons they say, 'Oh, actually no, we didn't make the amount of money that we're claiming we made in all the press so that we don't have to give you that. "We would like to make equal," said Neve, alluding to the pay gap in the industry that's supposed to be enlightened of all.

Also known for her roles in The Canterville Ghost, Party of Five, and Last Call, Campbell extends her gratitude to fans and the franchise. "To all my Scream fans, I love you. You've always been so incredibly supportive to me. I'm forever grateful to you and to what this franchise has given me over the past 25 years."  

Neve's exit from the Scream franchise comes two weeks after the actress landed a recurring role in Peacock's Twisted Metal, a live-action video game adaptation. Other cast members of the upcoming series are Thomas Haden Church, Stephanie Beatriz, and Anthony Mackie.
