The Witcher Renewed for a Second Season, Over a Month Before the First Season's Arrival on Netflix

The Witcher is getting a second season, before the first season even debuts on Netflix.

'The Witcher' is more than a month away from its release date of 20 December 2019, and Netflix is already sensing a hit on its hand, which is why the show is already renewed for a second season. To this point, we’ve only seen two trailers and one comic con appearance with many questions about the series among the fans, but it seems the streaming giant is confident they’ve got a satisfying and audience-pleasing product in their hands.

This is not something Netflix often does with its releases because the usual way of doing business for Netflix was waiting at least 45 days before announcing a show will be renewed or canceled. It is extremely rare when it comes to the streaming service handing a particular series a renewal without the show even making its debut first.

When the adaptation of the beloved book and game series was announced, and the casting was done, there were more skeptics than people who believed the end product would be good. There was a lot of backlash about the hiring of Henry Cavill as 'Geralt,' and his introduction video was also not good.

But when the trailer for the series arrived, there was genuine interest among fans for the show, and then the comic con happened where the sizzle reels further bolstered the belief of the fans of the show being watchable. Then, finally, the main trailer for the show arrived, and from the fighting mechanics to the sound design, everything evoked the sense of 'The Witcher' games, and people were on board finally.

We are still about 35 days removed from the arrival of the show on Netflix, but the marketing team which was not on point during the start of the year is finally getting its act together, and we are more than excited to see 'The Witcher.'

After the news of the renewal hit the airwaves, the creator and showrunner of 'The Witcher' were excited to continue on this journey with Netflix. “I’m so thrilled that before fans have even seen our first season, we are able to confirm that we’ll be returning to The Continent again to continue telling the stories of Geralt, Yennefer and Ciri,” Lauren S. Hissrich said.

The showrunner also stated during the press run to promote the series about the team, not shying away from gore and R-rated action. This revelation is also sure to make a lot of fans happy who feared we were getting a watered-down version of 'Geralt' and company.

With season one set to arrive on 20 December 2019, the team will head to London in early 2020 to start working on the second season with the streaming platform eyeing an early 2021 release date for the second season of 'The Witcher.'
